On The Felt

I would happily blame an incredibly sick run for losing my BR but that would be weak. I made quite a few boneheaded plays - will be spending a few days going over hand histories from the past couple weeks. will post any more notes.

I think I had a minor burnout the last couple days. Just wasn’t playing good poker - dropped to $4.91

Took a break all day and now I’m back and have gotten back up to $10.21

I know they say pockets vs overcards are coin flips in favor of the pockets, but I can’t help but feel that 75% of the time, the overcards win.

p.s. i’ve decided to stop titling 90% of my posts because my titles make no sense

sweet

I’ve had a great couple of days - placed 3rd in the daily HORSE freeroll for $10.50 and then placed 300th in the $10K Rush Guar ($1.10 buy-in) for another $10. By Ferguson’s law:

I can buy into a cash game for 5% (currently $1) or $2.50 <- which is more likely what I’m going to dfo.

I can buy into a tournament for 2% (currently $0.40) or $1 (like the Rush Guar and Daily dollar)

I must admit I played a pretty bad tournament in the Rush Guar - I kept getting overaggressive and trying to bluff players whose tendencies I didn’t know well enough to have a solid read. Luckily the cards fell my way just enough to claw my way into the money but I’m confident if I hadn’t made the bone-headed mistakes that I did, I would have made the top 100 - at least. Will post a hand later as I go over my hand history from the tournament.

Current BR - $20.01

when will i learn to stop bluffing microlimit players? just busted most of the $2.25 I won from a PL Omaha Hi tourney @ full tilt. Still have a ticket to next week’s freeroll and will play heavily for the next week. Lesson officially learned.

Weird Hand of The day

Hero: 99 UTG+1 with about 50 BB’s

Raise to 3BB’s

Called by the button and the SB, both with about 20-25BB’s

Flop comes 10-9-4

SB checks, I bet out, Button reraises, SB calls, I push and get two callers

SB shows 44 for a set of 4’s

I show 99 for a set of 9’s

Button shows TT for a set of 10’s.

Turn and river shoot blanks and i lose half my stack.

Not really complaining - I misread my opponents, but wow, that’s pretty crazy.

in a freeroll, was sort of short stacked - pushed with KQ as the blinds came up, get called by 77. flop comes KQ7. quite cruel, no?

waiting for freeroll #2 of the day.

busted my dollar. I took a couple bad beats on top of a couple bad plays by me. I have to remember what micro stakes players are like.

Back to the freerolls. Hopefully I’ll do a bit better this time.

Hand of the day - 11/25

Nearing bubble of $150 Hold ‘Em freeroll (see earlier post). About 10 people to go until the bubble bursts. I’ve worked my way back up to about 119K in chips. Still about 50K short of an average stack.

Blinds: 5K/10K with 1K ante

Hole Cards: Js 9s

Everyone folds around to MM King 19 (238K in chips) in the SB. He calls the BB, I check behind.

Flop: Jc 7s Ac

MM King 19 bets 10k. Fishily small bet; whenever he’s bet this much before, its a tentative bluff. I raise to 30k. He thinks for a bit and then calls.

Turn: 2c

He checks, I check behind thinking I don’t want to invest much more in the pot.

River: 6c

He bets the pot, 88,000, which is almost my entire stack. I’m almost 100% sure he’s bluffing given the way he’s played this hand, but I’m scared because I don’t want to get out before the bubble bursts and muck my hand.

He admitted he was bluffing after the hand as well.

Lesson: Don’t be scared of the bubble. Sometimes you will get busted just short of the money. Also, avoid significantly large stacks like his. You’ll generally end up being forced to make a tough decision for a large percentage of your chips.
